Investigation into allegations related to Jimmy Savile

Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was informed in November 2013 that two allegations had been received by the Operation Yewtree team relating to the behaviour of Jimmy Savile. One of these allegations pertained to Booth Hall Hospital and another to an unknown hospital that provided children's services in the North Manchester area. Both were at a time prior to the existence of the Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

As the legacy organisation the Trust has a duty to investigate these allegations and has duly done so. The passage of time has, however, made it difficult to reach a definitive conclusion.

The Trust has worked with two alleged victims, investigating the allegations and offering support during this difficult process. We would like to thank both of the alleged victims for their help.

We take the safety of all patients and visitors to our hospitals very seriously and in the wake of the allegations have again examined closely all safeguarding policies and procedures.

Here at Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust we want every patient to have the best possible experience of care. We strive to provide a safe and high quality service at all times. The findings of the Independent Inquiry into standards of care at the Mid Staffordshire NHS Hospitals Foundation Trust are currently being reviewed and a detailed plan of action in response will be prepared.

The Board of Directors will listen to patients, carers and staff in building our response to ensure that everything that needs to be done is done.  We will post a summary of that plan and details on progress on this site in the future.
